STUDIO:OTTO Brand Lab︎︎︎ ROLE:Art Director, Lead Designer SL Green Realty Corp. (SLG) is a New York City-based real estate investment trust that invests primarily in office buildings and retail centers. It is considered the largest office landlord in NYC. Since 2022, I have served as the art director and lead designer for the company’s annual reports, handling the projects from concept through to execution. The goal of each report was to break away from dry corporate design conventions as much as possible and deliver a bold, engaging, editorial-style narrative.All the reports were offset-printed by DCC︎︎︎&nbsp;in New Jersey, and use a 10-K wrap format, which combines the company's annual report to shareholders with its official Form 10-K filing. 2025 <img width="1920" height="2467" width_o="1920" height_o="2467" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/3448bda3ca4c651c11ce2f2ade510c92db27ecfaf0bc2c68a5a4c3296752fd52/2025_SLG_AR_Cover.png" data-mid="253162075" border="0" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/3448bda3ca4c651c11ce2f2ade510c92db27ecfaf0bc2c68a5a4c3296752fd52/2025_SLG_AR_Cover.png" /> For the 2025 report, the client wanted to feature the company's key achievements in the CEO's letter to shareholders, while dedicating the rest of the book to infographics about NYC and its leadership across various sectors in comparison to other cities around the world. Since we went for an almost maximalist design approach for the 2024 and 2023 reports, we wanted to take the opposite route and embrace a minimalist (yet playful) style for this infographics direction; this would allow the data, and only the data, to be the star of the show, while presenting the city as the larger-than-life place of unique opportunities that it truly is. Similar to (and inspired by) the streets and avenues of NYC, each section in this book highlights how these accomplishments didn’t happen by accident but were the culmination of critical insights and seasoned ability. The final result is a book that, true to the spirit of NYC, radiates energy and a drive for excellence. Through an expressive grid system, bold and overlapping typography, and a couple of metallic inks (silver and a beautiful special red) featured throughout the book, this year we went for a "more is more" design approach. This annual report was designed to reflect the SLG team’s vibrant energy, and how its around the clock thinking, strategizing, and building have helped to create a better and stronger company. For that year’s report, the client wanted a book that spoke to SLG’s position at the forefront of change, and the strength and breadth of its asset portfolio. A major highlight of the report was SLG’s 25-year commitment to the Park Avenue corridor, as well as the way the company is positioned from end to end of it. We created a double-gatefold spread that functioned almost like a map of the Park Avenue corridor, showcasing SLG’s portfolio from East 22nd Street to East 58th Street. In 2018, OTTO re-named, re-branded, and re-positioned Jovia as the “Innovative Credit Union of the Future” through an optimistic and playful visual identity designed to make banking feel brighter; OTTO has managed the brand since then. Following Jovia’s expansion into Brooklyn and Queens, we had the opportunity to work on a Super Bowl commercial as part of Jovia’s new brand awareness campaign. The campaign centered around Jovia’s not-for-profit banking products and services. The commercial features “Marlene,” a Jovia member meeting with her doctor over a condition that makes her money keep growing: her wallet blows up, her purse gets fat, her house gets bigger. The doctor diagnoses her with Jovia-itis: a side effect of not-for-profit banking with Jovia that causes you to have an inflammation of money and happiness. The spots featured illustrations and animations by Sebastian Curi︎︎︎, while art direction and production design were led by Yianni Loizos. I assisted with production design and was responsible for character styling. Since Marlene was the heart and visual focal point of the campaign, her look and styling had to remain true to the Jovia brand’s vibrant tone (while feeling relatable and grounded in reality), and allow for a seamless transition from live-action to illustration/animation. I also drew inspiration from the appearance of ripples in water and created a secondary graphic device that represents the company’s global impact and extensive wave of innovation. The Collaboration Device complements the Horizon Device and adds variety and flexibility to the overall system. The new system was designed to be adaptable across platforms and formats, from digital to print, ensuring a consistent brand identity in any context. &nbsp; <img width="3000" height="2000" DESIGN + BRAND IDENTITY, 2021 CLIENT:Mink Hollow Media STUDIO: OTTO Brand Lab︎︎︎ ROLE:Art Director, Lead Designer When I first started working at OTTO, the studio’s founder and creative director entrusted me with the creation of a logo and a simple brand identity for Mink Hollow Media (MHM), OTTO’s holding company. The challenge was to design a dynamic logo and brand that reflected the look and feel of OTTO's brand, but at the same time was distinctive enough to stand out on its own. MHM's logo design was inspired by longitudinal sound waves, vibrations that travel from a source to a receiver through media such as air and water. I used this as a metaphor to illustrate the vibrant creative process and how design can convey energy and creativity in many different ways through a variety of media. The logo also alludes to mountains, as the company takes its name from Mink Hollow Road in Woodstock, New York, which connects to several peaks such as Sugarloaf Mountain and Twin Mountain. division of International Paper, the largest pulp and paper company in the world. As part of OTTO’s design team, I contributed to the expansion of IPR's Sustainability in Motion brand language and content marketing. I worked on the design of IPR’s website as well as on the production of printed and digital collateral for the company.&nbsp; Since International Paper already had an established visual identity and a clear design system, the challenge was finding new graphic approaches that felt authentic to the brand while also expanding it to give the recycling division a voice of its own. We played with hand-drawn illustrations, cardboard graphics, and various typographic and animation treatments to bring the IPR design system to life. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; BFA SENIOR THESIS PROJECT, 2021 For our BFA Senior Thesis, my class chose the theme “HOME.” We were asked to write an essay related to that topic, which would then be expanded into a larger design project. For my project, I cast a critical eye on my home region and wrote an essay exploring the roots of anti-Blackness in Latin America. I turned my essay and research into a magazine that uses Latin American art as a case study that exposes the “hidden” racism behind the social concept known as Latinidad, which leaves many Afro-Latinos isolated from their countries of origin and cultures. In Plain Sight puts a spotlight on how Latinidad has done a near flawless job at systematically erasing Black people from every aspect of Latin American history, society, and culture. Thanks to this legacy of elitism and erasure, Afro-Latinos only exist at the margins of the regional establishment, and are not center, left, or near any stage when most think of “Latino” people or Álvarez&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; EDITORIAL DESIGN, 2020 For this project, I was asked to visit different libraries in NYC, choose a theme based on something interesting I found in one of them, and create a book that explores visual narrative. I went to Poets House and found a couple of poetry collections by Julia Álvarez, a poet, novelist, essayist, and fellow Dominican. Álvarez was forced to flee the Dominican Republic with her family when she was ten years old due to her father's involvement in a plot to overthrow the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo in the 1960s. Trujillo’s dictatorship and her family’s exile is a recurring theme in her work, which she explores in her poems: Samán, Museo del Hombre and Exile, from her poetry collections The Woman I Kept to Myself (2004) and The Other Side (1995), both found at Poets House. I created a visual narrative book that serves as a timeline touching on the historical context behind these poems: the final years of Trujillo's dictatorship, and her family's life during that time. 8 kinetic typography, and motion graphics. I was required to write the script, create storyboards, and translate static graphic design concepts into a dynamic, informative, data-driven animation. For my research, I chose the migration crisis in the Mediterranean Sea. The Mediterranean Sea is currently the deadliest migration route in the world. Thousands of people have died trying to reach Europe by crossing the Mediterranean Sea by boat in order to escape war, violence, and instability in their home countries. I wanted to bring attention to this crisis because I feel that many of us have become very desensitized to real news and to certain issues regarding the value of human life.
